Theodore J. Riney

Theodore J. Riney is a litigation specialist providing innovative, strategic solutions for business owners and general counsel for over two decades. Board Certified in Civil Trial Law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization, he represents individuals, partnerships, corporations and other business entities in disputes involving contracts, real estate development and lease matters, construction, financial institutions, fiduciary relations, partner/ shareholder relations, sales, warranty and deceptive trade practices, mortgage servicing, manufacturing, telecommunications, trade secrets, employer/employee relations, and other business matters, both routine and complex.

Selected Client Representations

  • Defense of a patent-infringement claim against a major fashion importer. An aggressive and targeted investigation and discovery plan resulted in the sole take-nothing judgment for the client-among twelve defendants;
  • Defense of an apartment developer/operator in a governmental fair housing lawsuit, resulting in a unilateral dismissal of the case without compensation;
  • Prosecution of a minority shareholder oppression claim on behalf of a 20 percent owner resulting in a seven-figure payment for the owner’s share of the company;
  • Representation of an attorney in a legal malpractice/fiduciary duty claim against a group of eight lawyer/defendants, resulting in the sole favorable summary judgment ruling among the lawyer defendants;
  • Obtained permanent injunction and jury-awarded civil damages for a public school teacher in a highly-publicized case in which the teacher was assaulted in the classroom; and
  • Designed and administered an innovative business model and structured legal program for a financial institution to provide cost certainty and consistency of claims resolution for its general counsel.
